The Sofar Spotter and Smart Mooring systems provide access to power, satellite connectivity, and easy access to sensor data via a dashboard / managed APIs.

In an effort to make ocean sensing more accessible, Sofar Ocean is providing a limited number of Spotter and Smart Mooring units to a select group of developers, to jump start their development on Bristlemouth.

Bristlemouth Development Environment

Arduino-compatible user-programmable processor module. When you plug it in, it will show up as a very small disk drive with main.py on it. No installs, IDE or compiler needed, so you can use it on any computer.

The 120MHz Cortex M4 with floating point support and 512KB Flash and 192KB RAM enables powerful onboard sensor signal processing capabilities.

21 x GPIO pins with following capabilities:

  • Native serial hardware interfaces: SPI, I2C and UART
  • Dual 1 mega samples per second Analog to Digital Converter - for reading analog sensors
  • 16 x PWM capable I/Os - for servos, LEDs, switch inputs, digital I/O etc.
  • Dual 1 mega samples per second Digital to Analog Converter
  • 8-bit Parallel capture controller (for camera/video in)
